About ellareads.org:
I was in middle school when I decided to start a website where I could share reviews of the books I was reading, hoping that other teens and preteens would enjoy and benefit from the perspective of someone their own age.
I’m now in my junior year of high school and have been interning with the Texas Freedom to Read Project. In my work with TXFTRP, I’ve been shocked and alarmed to witness the recent surge in censorship attempts and oppressive book bans in schools across my home state. I’ve decided to transform that book review site—ellareads.org—into a place where fellow teens can share and read about the very books being banned in their schools and across America. I want my peers to realize the educational and social merit of these books through a holistic, personal lens—instead of only receiving dissections and reviews of books from a singular, narrow, agenda-driven perspective.
Here at ellareads.org, you’ll be able to submit and read personal, heartfelt reviews of banned books and books that have touched people’s hearts. I aim to gather reviews written primarily by fellow teens, but I also welcome reviews from anyone—students, teachers, parents, concerned citizens—who have been positively affected by a banned or challenged book. My peers, and all readers, should have the information they need to decide whether or not a book is appropriate for them; teens must be able to form their own opinions about the literature they’re consuming.
To submit a review of your own, please fill out this Google Form. They’ll appear soon on this website for everyone to read.
